The formula
Revenue = engaged views ÷ 1,000 × Shorts RPM
Shorts earnings depend on eligible engaged views and your reported Shorts RPM—not a fixed payment for every public view. Amounts are USD, before taxes and costs.
Worked example
How the shorts earnings calculation works
At a hypothetical $0.06 RPM, 1,000,000 engaged views imply $60. At the same RPM, 100,000 imply $6 and 10,000,000 imply $600. These are arithmetic scenarios, not typical payouts.
Why engaged views matter for Shorts RPM
Public Shorts view counters and the denominator in your revenue report may differ. YouTube describes Shorts RPM per 1,000 engaged views. Use the matching engaged-view count and period from Studio rather than multiplying an incompatible public count by your RPM.
Shorts revenue sharing is not long-form CPM
Shorts Feed advertising uses a pooled revenue model, with eligible creators receiving 45% of the revenue allocated to them from the Creator Pool. Music licensing and allocation happen within that system. Do not treat 45% of an advertiser CPM as a universal Shorts RPM, or deduct 45% again from a measured creator RPM.
Build a realistic Shorts forecast
Separate Shorts from long-form videos and sponsorships. Run low, base and high RPM scenarios using your own recent reports, then adjust the view count. This tool does not connect to a channel, verify monetization eligibility or know future demand.
Frequently asked questions
How much do 1 million Shorts views pay?
There is no universal payout. One million matching engaged views at an assumed $0.06 RPM produce a $60 scenario; your actual RPM and eligible views may differ.
Should I deduct YouTube's share from RPM?
No. A measured creator RPM already reflects the report's revenue sharing. The calculator multiplies RPM by matching engaged views without another share deduction.
Can non-monetized Shorts earn this amount?
No payout is implied. Shorts monetization requires eligibility and acceptance of the applicable terms, among other requirements. An arithmetic estimate does not establish eligibility.
