YouTube Watch Time Calculator
Calculate YouTube watch hours from views and average duration. Model views needed for a watch-hour target without confusing total hours with YPP eligibility.

Your scenario
Prefilled values are hypothetical. Replace them with your own figures.
Choose views for the same videos and period as average duration.
Use minutes: 4 minutes 30 seconds is 4.5, not 4.30.

The formula
Watch hours = views × average view duration in minutes ÷ 60
Watch-time arithmetic does not establish monetization eligibility. Only qualifying hours in the applicable window count toward the relevant YPP route.
Worked example
How the watch time calculation works
With 10,000 views and a four-minute average duration, total modeled watch time is 666.67 hours. To model 4,000 hours at that same duration requires 60,000 views. Whether any hours qualify for monetization is a separate question.
Convert average view duration correctly
Enter duration in decimal minutes: 3 minutes 30 seconds is 3.5 minutes. Use the average actual viewing duration, not the full video length. Match it to the same videos and date range as the view count to avoid combining incompatible metrics.
Total watch hours and valid public watch hours differ
YouTube applies specific eligibility rules, time windows and regional availability. Shorts Feed watch time does not count toward the 4,000 valid public watch-hours route. Private, unlisted, deleted or other ineligible viewing may also be excluded under the current rules.
Use the Earn tab for eligibility
Some regions offer an expanded YPP access route with different thresholds and features. Advertising revenue-sharing eligibility has separate requirements. Check the current official rules and your Studio Earn tab; this tool does not evaluate subscriber count, uploads, policy compliance or which program is available to you.
Frequently asked questions
How many views are needed for 4,000 watch hours?
At a hypothetical four-minute average duration, the arithmetic is 4,000 × 60 ÷ 4 = 60,000 views. Only eligible viewing in the applicable period counts toward YPP requirements.
Do Shorts Feed hours count toward the 4,000-hour route?
No. YouTube distinguishes the long-form valid public watch-hour route from the eligible Shorts-view route. Check current official requirements and your Earn tab.
Can this confirm I qualify for monetization?
No. It only calculates watch-time scenarios. Eligibility also depends on the applicable program, region, subscribers, uploads, policy compliance and other official requirements.
